Who We Are

Background

Nomad Development Services (NDS) is a Minnesota-based 501©3 non-profit organization founded in 2021. Its mission is to uplift and empower Somali young adults and women in Minnesota through education, economic development and essential support services.

Minnesota has the largest Somali populace outside of Somalia with nearly 80,000 residents. A compelling cultural custom is the ‘call of kinship’ to help others overcome challenges and achieve their goals. By empowering individuals to find balance and meaning in their own lives, our organization advances overall the vibrant Somali community in Minnesota.

Our Story

In Somalia, our wise elders traditionally gathered under the umbrella-like canopy of a central acacia tree to discuss matters of the day and enhance their bonded sense of community. Similarly, Nomad Development Services is a center point of guidance and direction for Somali young adults and women living in Minnesota. We are driven by a powerful mission to uplift and empower our vibrant East African community, and are dedicated to fostering positive and productive futures for these community members through educational and economic development programs as well as essential support services.

Our Mission

To develop socio-economic opportunities for Minnesota Somali young adults and women by acting as an informational hub for financial workshops, educational and employment pathways, professional mentorships, and community resources.

Our Vision

To facilitate and encourage a trauma-free future for Minnesota Somali young adults and women as they achieve economic stability and balanced well-being.
